Descendant

A principal angle of an astrological chart marking the western horizon, commonly associated with partnership, one-to-one relationships, and how an individual encounters others.

The Descendant is one of the four principal angles of an astrological chart and is located directly opposite the Ascendant. It marks the western horizon at the specific time and location for which the chart is calculated and, in many House systems, forms the cusp of the Seventh House. Astrologers commonly associate the Descendant with partnership, close relationships, cooperation, projection, and the qualities a person may seek, encounter, or recognize through others. Because its position depends on the exact time and location of the chart, an accurate birth time is important when determining it in a natal chart. Its interpretation is usually considered together with its Zodiac Sign, ruling Planet, nearby Planets, Aspects, and the broader pattern of the chart.
