Elements

A four-part system in astrology that groups the Zodiac Signs into Fire, Earth, Air, and Water, each representing a broad style of expression and experience.

The Elements are one of the primary ways astrology organizes the twelve Zodiac Signs. The four astrological Elements are Fire, Earth, Air, and Water, with three Signs belonging to each Element. Fire is commonly associated with vitality, initiative, and inspiration; Earth with practicality, stability, and material experience; Air with thought, communication, and social exchange; and Water with emotion, sensitivity, and intuitive experience. In a natal chart, astrologers often consider the relative emphasis or balance of the Elements as part of the broader chart pattern rather than interpreting any Element in isolation. The Elements work alongside other organizing systems, including the Modalities, to help describe how the Signs differ in temperament and expression.
