An Orb is the amount of angular distance allowed on either side of an exact astrological Aspect. For example, a trine is exact at 120°, but two Planets separated by slightly more or less than 120° may still be considered to form a trine if the difference falls within the permitted orb. The size of an orb can vary according to the type of Aspect, the Planets or chart factors involved, and the practices of a particular astrologer or astrological system. Major Aspects are often given wider orbs, while Minor Aspects are commonly interpreted with tighter ones. In general, the closer an Aspect is to its exact angle, the stronger or more prominent it is usually considered within the interpretation of a natal chart.
