A Ruling Planet is a Planet traditionally associated with a particular Zodiac Sign and used in astrology as an important interpretive reference. Each Zodiac Sign has a planetary ruler, and astrologers often look to that Planet for additional information about how the Sign may function within a natal chart. A ruling Planet may also be used when interpreting an Astrological House by examining the Planet that rules the Zodiac Sign on that House cusp. Its meaning is then considered through the Planet’s own Sign, House placement, Aspects, and relationships to other chart factors. Different astrological traditions may use traditional rulers, modern rulers, or both for some Zodiac Signs.
